Deck the hall, and the house!

You may or may not be aware that over the Christmas period, the Gold Coast in Australia gets LIT UP. Meaning, it comes completely alive with the Gold Coast Christmas lights spectacular! Red, gold, green, blue, and every other colour under the sun! There’s dancing Santa’s, reindeer on the roof, snowmen (although the Gold Coast never snows), and everything else the homeowners can get their hands on. All of which add to an outstanding showcase competition of Christmas lights. Use your imagination to think how big this competition can get, and you’ll be close! A bit of a battle to be the best-decorative home, breeds the need to be better than the next person, and each year. The great lengths some competitors go to are incredible.

Furthermore, every year the GC plays host to the annual Gold Coast Christmas Lighting Competition, where households in residential areas, compete to win the famed title of the ‘Best Christmas lighting display’ in the whole of the GC. In 2022, the title went to: a Pacific Pines home owned by Reeju James, who has won fair and square, 2 years in a row. This home showcased songs with synchronised light bulbs and plasmas to match. In 2021, she received 30% of the votes, while in 2022 still receiving a whopping 20% of voter’s choice.

Planning and preparation are happening right now, giving everyone lots of time to think of new, bigger and better ways to showcase their love for Christmas. Whilst the competition is the major factor, lights and Christmas banging beats are all throughout towns and cities, shopping center’s and along the beaches, bringing a truly festive spirit to the whole place. In turn, this event really does bring a new meaning to the term ‘deck the halls.” Whilst I wouldn’t want to be responsible for any of the participants electricity bills, it definitely draws in a festive twist to the community and brings together residents at a time of year that should do exactly that.
